Go For The Test Drive
You are not going to want to purchase a motorcycle without first taking it for a test drive, especially when you are shopping for used ones. This is because there could be some things going wrong that you would only notice if you took it for a ride. Knowing the full extent of the condition of the bike can help you possibly negotiate a lower price, should you still want it. Even if you do not yet have your motorcycle license, you can still get on the motorcycle with someone who does have their license. Bring a friend with you that can operate the motorcycle on your behalf.
Ask For Repair Records
Not everyone keeps all of the receipts from repairs to their vehicles, but it doesn't hurt to ask in case they did keep them. If they do not have records of repairs, they can at least tell you about the different replacement parts that they have put into the motorcycle over the years. If the motorcycle is newer, then there is a small chance that the owner never had to put in any replacement parts yet. Also, if they are not the first owner of the motorcycle, they may not be aware of what was or was not done by the owners before them.
Take It To Your Mechanic
This is especially important if the motorcycle hasn't changed hands a lot. You want to get a good idea about the mechanical condition of the bike, and having your mechanic give it a brief inspection can help you learn a lot about it. They can help you decide if you want to purchase it and if you should possibly try to get it for less money because of some issues that they found during their inspection.
